Privacy policy

Your life stays on your phone.

Facet is a private record of your life. It has no account, no ads and no analytics, and nobody sells your data, including us. This page explains, plainly, the few times anything leaves your phone and why.

Effective 18 October 2026 · Applies to the Facet app for iPhone

The short version

What Facet stores, and where

The moments, people, routines, plans, trips, homes, finances, health and body logs, journals, photos you pick and files you attach all live in Facet's storage on your iPhone. Secrets like your Claude key are kept in the iOS Keychain. Facet can lock behind Face ID.

iOS may include Facet's data in your iCloud or computer backups, according to your own backup settings. Those backups are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Turning on iCloud Advanced Data Protection end-to-end encrypts them.

When something leaves your phone

ServiceWhenWhat is sent
Anthropic (Claude)Only if you add your own Claude API key in SettingsThe text, screenshots or files you ask Facet to read (for example a check-in or an import), plus the minimum context needed to understand it. Sent directly from your phone to Anthropic under your key and handled under Anthropic's privacy policy. Without a key, Facet reads on the device.
Apple speech recognitionWhen you dictateYour voice recording, processed by Apple to turn speech into text, the same service the iOS keyboard microphone uses.
GoogleOnly if you connect Gmail or pick from Google PhotosGmail: read-only access, used on your phone to find things like flight and booking confirmations. Google Photos: only the photos you pick. You can disconnect in Facet's Settings or in your Google account.
OuraOnly if you connect OuraYour Oura token, used to read your own sleep and activity data into Facet.
Expo (app updates)When Facet startsA check for app updates, which includes basic technical details such as the app version and your IP address. No personal data from Facet is sent.
DownloadsWhen you turn on a feature that needs oneFacet downloads things like the on-device voice model or photos linked in a file you import. These are downloads only; nothing about you is uploaded.
AppleIf you choose to share crash reports or feedbackCrash reports and feedback you share through iOS or TestFlight go to Apple and the developer under Apple's terms. Facet keeps its own crash log on your phone only.

Permissions Facet asks for

Each one is optional and asked only when you use the feature. What Facet reads through them is processed on your phone.

You can change any of these in iOS Settings, and Facet keeps working without them.

What we never do

Your control

Children

Facet is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. Because Facet has no account or server, any information a parent or caregiver records about a child stays on their own phone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. A meaningful change, such as a new service that receives data, will also be explained in the app before it applies to you.
